’Brilliant colours’
Mat: ’What makes the Bromeliad so special is that you can’t tell exactly where the leaves stop and the flower starts. It looks like a fountain of sturdy leaves fanning out in all directions with a colourful kind of cup in the middle. The green leaves gradually turn into the brilliant colour of the flower. You can see the green turning lighter and then pink. Or yellow, red, orange, purple or two different colours in the case of the ‘two tones’. I have Bromeliads in various colours. They look fantastic. And, although I’m really proud of them, they need hardly any care on my part. Pour a little water into the calyx (funnel)l now and then and that’s it. Fertiliser? They don’t need any.’
